For Immediate Release

November 20, 2014

After years of waiting, President Obama has fulfilled his promise to America with an historic announcement outlining the executive action his administration will take to remedy a broken immigration system that Congress has been unable to fix.

Although the focal point of contention remains the deportation relief to millions of undocumented immigrants, the limited executive actions are aimed at providing relief to both undocumented immigrants and people in lawful immigration status.

For undocumented immigrants, the initiative will allow millions to obtain deferral of action (temporary relief from deportation) and work authorization in the United States while such action is deferred. Washington State is home to thousands of undocumented immigrants and has one of the most robust business and technology centers in the world. For high-skilled workers, President Obama has expanded work authorization and provided other relief.

President Obama’s action is expected to help families stay together and promote competitiveness, innovation, and economic growth. We applaud President Obama’s efforts that will help many working families of Washington to meet their goals and aspirations.

While the government is not accepting applications now, if you believe you are eligible for one or more of the initiatives, you can prepare by gathering documents that establish your identity, relationship to a US citizen or lawful permanent resident and show that you have continuously lived in the US for 5 years or more.
