The $60,000 Door Stop

Fair Housing

MHB attorney Jeffrey Taren successfully represented a family with a disabled daughter in a Fair Housing lawsuit against a condominium association that refused to modify the entrance to the family’s building to allow a wheelchair to safely get inside. The Court is entering an agreed injunction requiring the installation of door stops, requiring new policies to allow reasonable accommodations and requiring that the Condominium Board receive Fair Housing Training. In addition, $60,000 in damages and fees were awarded to the Sanchez-Bates family and the Housing Center that assisted them.
