Countdown to Election 2020 - apply for citizenship now!

Posted by MHB Admin

Do you have a green card issued in 2014 or before? If you are married to a US citizen, was your green card issued in 2016 or before? Are you eligible to apply for U.S. Citizenship now, or soon? The immigration lawyers at MacDonald Hoague & Bayless can help answer your questions about your eligibility for citizenship. We can also assist with your citizenship application. If you are eligible, you need to file soon to have a chance to become a citizen in time to vote in the 2020 election!

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Seattle Field Office is currently taking 14- 19 months (and sometimes longer) to process N-400 Applications for Naturalization/Citizenship. The 2020 US Presidential Election is only 20 months away.

This means that eligible green cards holders must apply as soon as possible to be eligible to vote in the 2020 election.

If you are married and residing with a US citizen, you can file your N-400 approximately 2 years and 9 months after your green card was first issued, even if the green card was not based on that marriage. For all others, you can file your N-400 approximately 4 years and 9 months after your green card was issued.

“MHB lawyers will be holding a free citizenship seminar in March. Stay tuned!”

Don’t miss your opportunity to become a citizen and vote in the 2020 election!
