Anna Deal
AnnaD@mhb.comAnna Deal provides zealous immigration legal representation to individuals and families in Washington and beyond. Anna’s practice centers on removal defense, humanitarian forms of relief, and family-based immigration processes. Practicing for over 10 years, she has extensive experience counseling and advocating for asylum seekers, humanitarian parolees, noncitizen survivors of violence and crime, recipients of Temporary Protected Status and DACA, and noncitizens in removal proceedings, including individuals who have had contact with the criminal legal system. Anna also has significant experience handling family-based immigration solutions—including complex cases involving waivers of inadmissibility—as well as naturalization for aspiring U.S. citizens. Known for her thorough and client-centered approach, Anna guides clients through some of the most complex areas of the U.S. immigration system with compassion and perseverance.
Anna’s legal career began in Omaha, Nebraska as an Attorney Advisor through the Attorney General’s Honors Program where she conducted research and drafted bond and relief decisions on behalf of three immigration judges. From 2021 to 2025, Anna was Legal Director at a nonprofit law firm in Nebraska where she oversaw a team of 26 attorneys representing low-income individuals and families in removal defense and all forms of humanitarian and family-based immigration relief. Anna specialized in representation for noncitizen victims in U-Visas, T-Visas, and status under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA); affirmative and defensive asylum for children and survivors of intrafamily violence; and Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) status for abandoned or neglected minors.
In addition to providing direct legal representation, Anna led partnerships with three hospital systems to offer uninsured noncitizen patients immigration legal counsel and representation with the goals of securing healthcare coverage, reducing uncompensated care costs, and improving health outcomes. She also developed innovative service delivery models to expand the community’s capacity to respond to evolving legal needs, including a private attorney panel to offer humanitarian parolees legal representation funded by government grants and private donors; a “friend of the court” program to provide advocacy and legal screening to unaccompanied children in removal proceedings; and a pro bono bond representation project.
Anna is passionate about engaging in system-level advocacy to benefit noncitizens, as well as education for community and professional audiences who are allies to or work with immigrants and refugees. Anna helped to craft and advance Nebraska legislation that expanded access to U-Visa certifications, SIJ status, driver’s licenses, and commercial and professional licenses for eligible noncitizens. She has engaged in high-impact litigation through amicus briefing and appeals aimed at advancing the legal landscape for asylum seekers. Finally, Anna enjoys teaching and mentoring law students and new practitioners; she has served as an adjunct professor at a Nebraska law school and a consulting attorney providing training and technical assistance to immigration practitioners at nonprofits across the U.S.
In 2025, Anna returned to Seattle where she grew up and joined the team at MacDonald, Hoague & Bayless. Outside of work, you can find Anna exploring the mountains and waterways of the Pacific Northwest with her partner and their daughter.
